The In Between Time

Cat tails swaying,
Sunshine glistening across Sloan's lake
Boats speed by, skiers going so fast they seem to fly,
So much fun you want to run and jump in
So hot you wish you'd worn shorts in this
The in between time
In the air there's a sweetness
Blossoms still fragrant, but fading
enough to make you nostalgic...
Another summer is about to slip away.
There is something elusive...
Can't put your finger on it,
In the in between time
The nights become crisp like an apple just picked
The trees begin to be mixed green and gold
Some leaves begin to fall...
Not enough to proclaim it is.
Oh, the in between time
A gentle breeze blows
And you receive the subtle scent of decay
Mixed with wood burning,
You imagine marshmallows roasting
The gentle clicking of a few leaves blowing
Makes you long for crunch of yards full under foot
You think of cozy sweaters and cider,
You can almost smell the cinnamon
Filled with the anticipation
Will Autumn hurry up and arrive
In this, the in between time.
